Cambodia Gambling Dens
Wednesday, 30. March 2016
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that features many conveniences aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
