There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features many amenities aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
