Cambodia Gambling Halls
Tuesday, 7. October 2025
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that highlights numerous luxuries aside from the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
